Runza Recipe

Ingredients:

1 lb ground beef
1 medium onion, chopped
1 1/2 cups sauerkraut, drained
1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
2 tbsp butter
2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 cup warm water
2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast
1 tsp sugar
1/2 tsp salt

Preparation:

Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a baking sheet.
In a skillet, cook the ground beef and chopped onion over medium heat until browned. Drain any excess fat.
Stir in sauerkraut, and cook for 2-3 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in shredded cheddar cheese.
In a separate bowl, dissolve sugar and yeast in warm water. Let it sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
Add flour and salt to the yeast mixture, then knead to form a dough. Let it rise for 1 hour.
Roll out the dough and cut into 6-8 squares. Spoon the beef mixture into the center of each square.
Fold the dough over the filling and pinch the edges closed.
Place on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 20-25 minutes, until golden brown.
Serve warm and enjoy your homemade Runzas!
