Delicious Ricotta Spinach Calzones
These calzones are a fantastic way to enjoy a savory Italian treat, packed with creamy ricotta and vibrant spinach. Perfect for a quick dinner or as a snack at a gathering, they are both comforting and delicious. The golden crust holds a delightful surprise inside, making every bite a burst of flavor. Serve them warm with marinara sauce for extra zing!
Ingredients
– 1 cup ricotta cheese
– 1 cup fresh spinach, chopped
– 1 cup mozzarella cheese, shredded
– 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
– 1 teaspoon garlic powder
– 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
– Salt and pepper, to taste
– 1 package pizza dough (store-bought or homemade)
– Olive oil for brushing
– Marinara sauce for dipping (optional)
Directions
1. Begin by preheating your oven to 425°F (220°C).
2. In a mixing bowl, combine the ricotta, chopped spinach, mozzarella, Parmesan, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, and season with salt and pepper. Mix thoroughly until all ingredients are well incorporated.
3. On a floured surface, roll out the pizza dough into a large circle approximately 1/4 inch thick.
4. Cut the dough into circles roughly 4-6 inches in diameter using a large glass or round cutter.
5. Spoon a generous amount of the spinach-ricotta mixture onto one half of each circle.
6. Carefully fold the other side of the dough over the filling, sealing the edges firmly. For added security and a decorative touch, use a fork to crimp the edges.
7. Transfer the calzones onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Brush the top of each calzone with olive oil for that delicious golden sheen.
8. Bake them in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until they turn a lovely golden brown.
9. Allow the calzones to cool for a few minutes before serving. They are best enjoyed warm, especially with a side of marinara sauce for dipping.
